In the 2022-2023 school year, Land of Sky P20 Council partnered with the College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) and student services ataff at P20 member institution Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College (A-B Tech) for a successful initiative aimed at improving FAFSA completion rates in select schools in Buncombe and Madison counties. EdNC recently ran an article about the team’s successful strategy that included both incentivizing students and families as well as providing high school counselors with a toolkit of resources (aka our FAFSA PACK, or FAFSA Promotion And Completion Kit).
P20’s FAFSA PACK includes a variety of both consumable and non-consumable items to help school counselors, non-profits, and other entities interested in promoting FAFSA at open houses, sports events, school fairs, and other events. The kit includes banner stands, buttons, and selfie frames (all in English or Spanish), cornhole boards with logos from colleges in our region, a tablecloth, and a spinning wheel with Q&As about FAFSA. Consumables, which are recommended for use as spinning wheel prizes and for FAFSA completers include candy and tablet/phone stands.
